Strahan

Strahan lies on the west coast of Tasmania and was historically a timber and fishing centre. Perched on the Franklin River and close to Macquarie Harbour and Sarah Island, once one of Tasmania's most brutal penal colonies. The town is the now a gateway to the wilderness wonder of the Gordon-Franklin Wild Rivers National Park, which can be explored by yacht, jet boat, helicopter or 4WD. Just 4 miles west is Tasmania's longest beach (Ocean Beach - 17 miles long) where platypus can be found in the creeks that run up to the beach.
